Vacancies for Independent Representatives on Torridge District Council’s committees

Torridge District Council currently has five vacancies for Independent Representatives to serve on its Committees.

The Independent Representative role is key in terms of their contribution to Committee discussions – they bring an independent viewpoint along with their own skills and experience to the role.

The current vacancies are for:

  • External Overview & Scrutiny Committee – 3 Vacancies
  • Internal Overview & Scrutiny Committee – 1 Vacancy
  • Standards Committee – 1 Vacancy

The role of the Overview & Scrutiny Committees is to discharge the functions conferred by Section 21 of the Local Government Act 2000 or regulations under Section 32 of the Local Government Act 2000.

The role of the Standards Committee is to promote and maintain high standards of conduct by the Members and Co-Opted Members of the Council and assist Members and co-opted Members of the Council to observe the Members’ Code of Conduct.

These positions do not attract a salary, but reasonable travelling expenses will be paid.
